Annapolis, MD (September 8, 2021), The People for Keanuú Smith-Brown is pleased to announce that former Mayor, Ellen Moyer, has endorsed our campaign. A trailblazer on issues like the environment, she is the first woman to be elected mayor in Annapolis.
“I admire Mayor Moyer; she is a true leader for the city,” Smith-Brown said. “A leader must be bold and prepared to instill generational impacts in our communities, which she continuously demonstrates through her work on the environment, creative arts, and education. This is the type of representation Ward 3 deserves on the Annapolis City Council, and I am humbled to be trusted to bring just that.”
Smith-Brown has also received endorsements from many other notable figures, such as Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot and former NAACP President Ben Jealous, Annapolis and Ward 3 business owners, like Lisa DeJesus and Fredy Salmoran, and national organizations, including Run for Something and LGBTQ Victory Fund.
Moyer’s full statement reads:
“It is time. It is time we oldsters pass the torch to a younger generation of people eager to lead us through policy decisions that meet the new demands of our future. I am a senior-aged woman. I am sensitive to our culture that dismisses us oldsters, women in particular. It is a culture that refuses to appreciate the wisdom we can offer from our experience and perspectives. I have felt the stings too.
But I have met with Keanuú Smith-Brown. I believe he is a listener and a man with energy and vision, an activist who will seek counsel from all of us, young and old, inclusively. Keanuú Smith-Brown is a bridge to the new demands of the future. He is eager to meet the challenges that impact all of us: the uncertainty of a pandemic, chaos from climate crises we are witnessing today, and the politics of hate that confuse and divide us.
It is a tough time to govern. But it is time, time to pass the torch to someone with new energy and a new vision for tomorrow. You should have received a mail-in ballot. Your voice counts. With a keen eye to a brand new future, cast your vote for KSB, a man of energy, commitment, and vision.”
